Advertising continues to be legalised lying

When will advertisers be taken to task for outright lies in their ads?

Anyone who has used Spotify free will know that Spotify are always offering you an upgrade at a discount. This includes getting the first 3 months free. And it is offered cyclically so there is always a chance to take up the offer.

Why then are they allowed to use phrases like “Last chance”?

I thought we’d seen an end to this kind of nonsense when the never ending DFS sale finally ended. Clearly not.

Tougher regulation would be a starter. But more importantly, ad agencies and clients, can you please take a step back for a moment and think about this? Treating consumers as idiots isn’t going to end well…
